Stories

Fantasy and speculative fiction are my first loves. Lord of the Rings is what got me into writing, but I've always possessed an often infuriating imagination. Below are descriptions of all the fiction I have posted on this blog, with links to each story. To begin reading, follow a link, then scroll to the bottom of the page for the first post.

The Words in the World is an excerpt from a longer fiction project I'm working on. That story is called Song of the Searching, and it's the story of Shasta, a boy who travels across a magical world searching for his sister, told from the perspectives of everyone he meets along the way. This excerpt won first place in a student creative writing competition at a C.S. Lewis Colloquium.

The Man in the Black Suit follows a professional hitman as he struggles to land a big contract. He eventually decides to be a little more forceful with his salesmanship. COMPLETED

The Hell-Hunter and the Librarian is an odd little tale, the first-person musings of Katy, hell's only librarian. She stewards the shelves of forbidden knowledge, never seeing a soul in her eternity of working there . . . until Jack walks in and asks to check out a book. Note: I currently have a completed form of this as a 26,000 word novella, but it isn't available on this blog. It's listed on this page because I developed very early ideas for it on the blog, but those aren't really the same story anymore, so I've removed them.

Gods and Chaos was the working name of one of my novels. I retitled it Days of Telenine for the second draft. What's posted to this blog includes the very early stages of the first few chapters, and I suppose I'll eventually take them down and replace them with select teaser chapters. But for now, this is what you get. NOTE: this story won the Editor's Choice Award from Brimstone Fiction, the speculative-fiction imprint of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas. This means I get mentored by a very cool person from Brimstone, with the goal of eventual publication! They also suggested a title change to Days to Destruction, so that's the current working title. I'm now in the third-ish fourth-ish draft. To tell you the truth, I've lost count. It could even be the fifth. TEASER

Growls in the Darkness is not, strictly speaking, fiction. Rather, it's a little adventure I had while working a summer job at a painting company. A slightly anticlimactic story, but a fun memory, nonetheless. COMPLETED

The Outside Boy The story of a boy who wants a puppy. COMPLETED

Gregory Ran is a comedic short story about a rather strange support group and a man with a pathetic problem. COMPLETED

I hope you enjoy the fiction! Some of these I wrote quite a while ago, and my writing has evolved since then.
